HUNG, Cee Kay Celeste

Nicknamed the "pocket rocket" by national coach Dave Haller, Celeste started her swim journey at the Hong Kong Country Club under Mrs. June Wright and Captain Harry Wright. Between chasing fellow Olympian Fenella at club training and watching Nadia Comaneci score her many perfect 10s, Celeste's Olympic dream begun.

Celeste first represented Hong Kong in 1983 when she followed the team to Blackpool. She won the U.K. National "11 year and under" 100m Butterfly event in a time of 1:13.0. It was the first overseas National title that a Hong Kong Swimmer had ever won. Celeste also took home Bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Individual Medley at the same meet. Celeste improved quickly as an age group swimmer.

Celeste went on to compete internationally at the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games, 1986 Seoul Asian Games, 1990 Beijing Asian Games, and the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games. Celeste carried the Hong Kong flag at the Seoul Olympics closing ceremony and won't name those who took the flag and ran around the stadium.

With a time of 59.84, Celeste was the first woman in Hong Kong to break the one minute barrier in the 100m Freestyle, a noteworthy feat highlighting her swimming career. She once held the Hong Kong record for 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 100m Butterfly and various relays. At the 1986 Seoul Asian Games, Celeste was the anchor on the 4x100m Freestyle Relay that won the Bronze medal - the first of Hong Kong's many relay medals at Asian Games.

Celeste retired shortly after the 1991 Perth World Championships. She still enjoys traveling and sports, albeit at leisurely pace.
