Siobhan Bernadette Haughey

Siobhan Haughey is a Hong Kong Olympic Swimmer. Born and raised in Hong Kong to an Irish father and a Hong Kong mother, she started swimming at the age of four. She was training in Hong Kong while attending a local primary and secondary school until she was 17. In 2015, Siobhan went to the University of Michigan to become a student athlete. The following year, she represented Hong Kong in her first Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. After placing ninth overall in the 200-meter freestyle heats, she became the first Hong Kong swimmer to advance beyond the heats at the Olympic Games. In 2019, she graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in psychology, and pursued a professional swimming career since then.

At the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, Siobhan won two silver medals in the Women’s 100-meter and 200-meter freestyle, making her Hong Kong’s first swimmer to have won an Olympic medal and Hong Kong’s first athlete to have won two medals in a single Olympic Games. In the same year, she broke the world record in the women’s 200-meter freestyle at the 2021 FINA World Swimming Championships. In 2022, she was elected to serve as a World Aquatics Athlete Committee member, to ensure that athletes’ voices are represented during decision making processes.

She is currently still a professional swimmer, doing what she loves every day, while chasing her dreams.
